Occlusion in Everyday Practice

with Dr. Roy Higson.

Learn to finish an occlusion regadless of position.Occlusion is often seen as a complex or mystifying subject. Roy Higson has become the foremost exponent of simplifying the concepts of occlusion to save time and produce better work both in NHS and private practice. This one day programme is an excellent introduction to the principles of occlusion and how they affect restorative, periodontal and orthodontic treatments.
Practitioners will also be able to develop their understanding and management of headache cases, thereby developing a new area of patient care within their practice The seminar also includes TMJ anatomy and function and the use of appliances.

SDS/IPSO Occlusion Two -

Hands-on Practical

with Dr. Roy Higson.

This one-day course is designed as a follow-up to the one-day theory. The course, which is limited to a maximum of TWELVE participants includes the following:
  • Facebow registration and mounting of an upper model.
  • Centric relation manipulation - each participant manipulates and is manipulated by Roy Higson.
  • Construction of a Lucia jig.
  • Use of a Huffman Leaf Gauge and centric relation records to mount a lower model.
  • Construction of a lower stabilisation splint on the mounted models.
  • Delivery of the stabilisation splint to the patient.
Participants work in pairs, so that at the end of the day they have produced an appliance and are wearing one.

SDS/IPSO Occlusion Three -

Occlusion & Restorative Dentistry

with Dr. Roy Higson and Dr. John Bassett.

This is a 3-day comprehensive introductory course in the diagnosis and treatment of occlusal problems which confront the dentist every office day.

The objectives of this 3-day course are:

  • To improve the participants occlusal diagnostic and treatment skills and to impress the participant with the scope of occlusal disease.
  • To develop in the participant a rationale of diagnosis and treatment of the occlusion based on a comprehensive understanding of the etiologic nature of stress induced by malocclusion as it relates to dental disease.
  • To develop in the participant jaw manipulative skills essential to clinical examination, occlusal equilibration and obtaining accurate centric jaw relation records.
  • To Introduce the participant to the practical application of occlusal instrumentation.
  • To introduce the participant to practice management techniques which when complemented with effective occlusal treatment skills and a sincere desire to do what is best for the patient will result in a practice that is both materially and spiritually rewarding.
  • To generate enthusiasm in the participant to further develop his occlusion/TMJ treatment and management skills by continuing participation in IPSO Seminars.

SDS/IPSO Occlusion Four -

Principles of Occlusion - One Year Course

with Dr. Roy Higson and Dr. John Bassett.

Learn to construct crowns that don't need occlusal adjustment on cementation.A total of nine days, this course consists of 3 separate 2-day sessions followed by Occlusion 3, spread over twelve months. Taught by instructors* with a combined teaching experience in occlusion of over 100 years. Unique worldwide teaching on participants' own patients at various centres. Diagnosis, equilibration, cadiaoc, TMJ therapy.

Introduction to fully adjustable articulators:

  • Use of facebows, anterior jigs, centric records and model analysis on patients.
  • Equilibration of two patients to a neuro-muscular release.
  • Advice on patient selection is provided.
  • Cadiax - each participant will take a cadiax and be shown how to set the records on a fully adjustable articulator.
  • Aesthetic reshaping.
  • Diagnosis and treatment of TMJ problems.
Several appliances for different situations are constructed on patients. You then treat your TMJ patient appropriately.
After completing the six days of 'hands-on' with IPSO instructors the three-day theory with Dr Bassett and Dr Higson is repeated in the light of knowledge gained.

Total of nine days - instruction commences at 8:00am and can finish late!

All tutors are experts in their fields but have been chosen for teaching ability as well.

SDS/IPSO Occlusion Five -

Intermediate Restorative Seminar

with Dr. John Bassett and Dr. Larry Huber.

A total of 8 days in 4 separate 2-day sessions, this seminar is a hands-on course to assist the now occlusion-based practitioner towards the reconstruction of a broken down dentition. It includes the use of the terminal hinge axis and reconstruction with the use of a cadiaoc.
Each delegate fabricates up to eight posterior and six anterior restorations for patients on the course, using Denar (Cadiax) and fully adjustable instrumentation.
  • Preparations are done in each dentists office between sessions.
  • Dentists do diagnostic wax-up of cases.
  • Denar (Cadiax) and fully adjustable articulators are provided.
  • Patient typically pays a reduced fee for services provided, offsetting tuition cost.
  • Laboratory technician attends last two sessions for staining, glazing and seating if possible.
